The Baja 400 was another fight to the finish!

Motorsport definitely isn’t easy, and if it was everyone would be doing it. The Baja 400 proved that once again.

Our prep heading into the race was really solid. Brent had a ton of confidence in his notes, and we banked plenty of miles breaking down the technical course. When it came time for qualifying, we threw down a blistering lap, seven seconds clear of the next competitor. It was a flawless run, and it gave us P1 to lead things out on race day.

The race started perfectly. Brent and I settled in quickly, found a good rhythm and kept it clean. At Race Mile 65 we had a 16-second lead on corrected time, and by Race Mile 175 we’d stretched that to nearly two minutes. The truck felt great, we didn’t have a single flat and I was able to hand it over to Paul in really good shape after a super quick driver change.

That’s when things got tricky. About 30 miles into his section, Paul got stuck in 6th gear and couldn’t downshift. The Baja gods just weren’t on our side this time. Big credit to Paul, though, because he did an unreal job keeping the truck moving and still fighting for the win despite the mechanical setback.

By the closing miles, the boys had us within striking distance again, just ten seconds off the lead with 23 miles to go. Unfortunately, a flat tyre at Race Mile 390 cost us that last push. In the end, we crossed the line second, just behind Alan Ampudia.

It stings to come that close, but I’m proud of the whole team for the effort. Thank you to all the crew, our sponsors, and especially PWR Advanced Cooling Technology, who kept the temps down in the truck while we were stuck in 6th gear. We’ll take the lessons, reset, and I promise we’ll get another one of these soon.
